ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਵਡਿਆਈ-ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਉਹ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਫ਼ਿਕਰ-ਤੌਖਲਾ ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਾੜ ਲਈ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਦਾ ਕਾਇਮ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਭਾ ਖੱਟ ਲਈ ॥੧॥ ਹੇ ਜਗਤ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! (ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ) ਮੈਂ (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ, (ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ) ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਕੰਮ ਨਾਹ ਲੱਗੇ। (ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ (ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਦੀ) ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹਾਂ (ਤਾ ਕਿ) ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਉਸ ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਰਧਾ-ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦੀ ਦਾਤ ਲੱਭ ਲਈ (ਇਹ ਸਰਧਾ ਕਿ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਇਕ-ਸਮਾਨ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ), ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ) ਸੂਝ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ ਲਈ। ਜੇਹੜਾ ਭੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਮਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ (ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ ਵਿਚ) ਇਕ-ਸਮਾਨ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ,ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਵਿਆਪਦੀ, ਉਸ ਵਲ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਕਦੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੱਕਦਾ ॥੨॥

हुकमनामा व्याख्या-
गुरु की शरण में मिलने वाला सच्चा आनंद और आत्मिक सम्मानमनुष्य अपने जीवन में सम्मान, शांति और सुख की तलाश करता रहता है। परंतु सच्चा सम्मान और स्थायी आनंद केवल संसारिक उपलब्धियों से प्राप्त नहीं होता, बल्कि गुरु की कृपा और परमात्मा के नाम से मिलता है। इस पावन हुकमनामे में यही समझाया गया है कि जो व्यक्ति पूर्ण गुरु की शरण में आ जाता है, उसके जीवन के सभी भ्रम, डर और चिंता समाप्त हो जाते हैं।गुरुबाणी कहती है कि जिस मनुष्य ने पूरे गुरु से वडाई और इज्जत प्राप्त कर ली, उसके मन में परमात्मा का नाम बस जाता है। जब प्रभु का नाम हृदय में बसता है, तब मनुष्य के अंदर से हर प्रकार का फिक्र, भ्रम और अस्थिरता दूर हो जाती है। संसार की माया और अहंकार इंसान को भीतर से कमजोर करते हैं, लेकिन गुरु के शब्द के द्वारा जब मनुष्य अपने अंदर के अहंकार को जला देता है, तब उसे परमात्मा के दरबार में सच्चा सम्मान प्राप्त होता है। यह सम्मान दुनियावी नहीं, बल्कि आत्मिक और सदा रहने वाला होता है।रहाउ की पंक्तियों में भक्त की विनम्र अरदास दिखाई देती है। वह प्रभु से प्रार्थना करता है कि उसका मन हमेशा प्रभु के नाम के सिमरन में लगा रहे और उसे किसी अन्य कार्य में मोह न लगे। सच्चा भक्त जानता है कि जीवन का सबसे बड़ा धन प्रभु का नाम है। गुरु की शरण में आकर वह उसी नाम की बख्शीश मांगता है, जिससे उसके मन में हर समय आनंद और शांति बनी रहे। यह आनंद बाहरी वस्तुओं से मिलने वाला क्षणिक सुख नहीं, बल्कि आत्मा की गहराई में अनुभव होने वाला दिव्य सुख है।आगे गुरुबाणी समझाती है कि जिसने पूरे गुरु से ज्ञान प्राप्त कर लिया, उसके अंदर दृढ़ विश्वास पैदा हो जाता है कि परमात्मा सम्पूर्ण सृष्टि में एक समान व्याप्त है। जब मनुष्य हर जीव और हर परिस्थिति में प्रभु को देखने लगता है, तब उसके अंदर भेदभाव, डर और द्वेष समाप्त हो जाते हैं। ऐसा व्यक्ति आत्मिक रूप से अमर हो जाता है। “आत्मिक मौत” का अर्थ है — प्रभु से दूर होकर अज्ञान और मोह में जीना। लेकिन जो व्यक्ति हर समय प्रभु को अपने साथ अनुभव करता है, वह इस आत्मिक मृत्यु से बच जाता है और उस पर यमराज का भी कोई प्रभाव नहीं रहता।यह हुकमनामा हमें सिखाता है कि जीवन की सच्ची सफलता गुरु की शरण, नाम सिमरन और अहंकार के त्याग में है। संसारिक दौड़-भाग और चिंताओं के बीच यदि मनुष्य प्रभु के नाम को अपना आधार बना ले, तो उसका जीवन आनंद, शांति और आत्मिक सम्मान से भर जाता है।
Hukamnama Explanation – Finding True Honor Through the GuruThis Hukamnama beautifully explains the transformation that takes place when a person truly connects with the Guru and allows the Divine Name (Naam) to settle within the heart. Guru Sahib teaches that real greatness does not come from worldly achievements, wealth, or praise from society. True honor comes only through spiritual awakening and union with the Divine.The opening line, “From the Perfect Guru, I have obtained glorious greatness,” reminds us that all spiritual progress begins with the guidance of the Perfect Guru. Human beings often spend their lives searching for recognition, respect, and happiness in the outside world. Yet these things remain temporary and unstable.
Guru Sahib explains that lasting greatness is received only when one walks on the path shown by the Guru. The Guru blesses the seeker with wisdom, humility, and inner peace qualities that make life truly meaningful.Guru Sahib then says that the Naam, the Divine Name of the Lord, has naturally begun to dwell within the mind. This is important because Naam is not merely words spoken by the tongue; it is a spiritual state where the mind becomes constantly connected with God.
When the heart is filled with Naam, fear, anxiety, jealousy, and emptiness slowly disappear. The mind becomes peaceful because it finds its true anchor in the Divine.
The Hukamnama further explains that through the Shabad the Guru’s divine teaching ego and attachment to Maya are burned away. Ego (haumai) is one of the greatest barriers between humanity and God. Ego makes a person believe that success, intelligence, beauty, or power belong solely to the self. Maya, or attachment to worldly illusions, keeps the mind trapped in temporary pleasures and endless desires. Guru Sahib teaches that only the light of the Shabad can destroy these inner chains. When a person reflects upon Gurbani and lives according to its wisdom, pride begins to fade and the soul becomes spiritually liberated.The line, “Through the Guru, I have obtained honor in the Court of the True Lord,” carries a deep spiritual message.
In the world, honor is often measured through status, wealth, or social position. But in the Divine Court, the only true honor is spiritual purity and devotion to God. The Guru prepares the soul to stand fearlessly before the Divine by filling life with truth, compassion, humility, and remembrance of Naam.Guru Sahib then declares, “I serve the Lord of the Universe; I have no other work to do.”
This does not mean abandoning worldly responsibilities. Instead, it means living every action with the awareness of God. Whether working, serving family, helping others, or praying, the Gurmukh keeps the Divine at the center of life. Service to God becomes the soul’s highest purpose.The Hukamnama also describes the blissful state of a person immersed in Naam: “Night and day, my mind is in ecstasy.” The joy of the world depends on circumstances and can disappear quickly, but spiritual bliss remains steady because it comes from within.
A Gurmukh continually longs for the bliss-giving Naam, understanding that this Divine connection is the greatest treasure.Guru Sahib then reveals an important spiritual truth: “From the mind itself, mental faith is obtained.” Real faith is not forced from outside. It awakens from within when the mind experiences the truth of the Shabad. Through the Guru’s teachings, doubt disappears and faith becomes strong and natural.One of the most profound teachings in this Hukamnama is the description of the rare soul who sees life and death alike. Most people fear death because they identify only with the physical body and worldly attachments. But a spiritually awakened person understands that the soul is eternal. Such a person remains balanced in both happiness and sorrow, life and death, gain and loss.
This spiritual stability frees the soul from fear.Finally, Guru Sahib says that such a soul “shall never die again, and shall not have to see the Messenger of Death.” This refers to liberation from the cycle of birth and death. When a person fully merges with the Divine through Naam and the Guru’s grace, the soul becomes free from spiritual bondage and attains eternal union with God.Message for Today’s LifeThis Hukamnama speaks directly to the struggles of modern life. Today people often chase validation, success, and temporary pleasures, yet still feel restless within. Guru Sahib reminds us that peace does not come from external achievements but from inner connection with the Divine.
By living according to Gurbani, remembering Naam, and reducing ego, a person experiences true happiness and fearlessness.The Guru teaches us that real greatness is not about being praised by the world, but about becoming humble, truthful, and spiritually awake. When Naam enters the heart, life changes completely the mind becomes peaceful, the soul becomes fearless, and one begins to live in harmony with Hukam, the Divine Will.
